Rattled at Dalby
By simon on 28 Sep 2008

Yes, you are not mistaken, this is a real update! It has been a long time coming but with trips out on the bike becoming a little more frequent and a little more fun, it seemed like a reasonable time to finally post some gibbering nonsense about our most recent biking exploits.
A small group of four headed to Dalby today (almost 2 years since my last trip) for a change of scenery and to hopefully sample some new trails. I'm not really sure on the exact route, but I saw lots of red and black arrows along the way so that should give you some idea ;) . The day could probably be summed up with back ache, arse ache, leg ache, blood (lots of), flying lycra and some decent bermige action.

In brief, Neil and I suffered badly with being rattled around on the rocky trails on our hardtails. Some parts are ok but the rattling was generally fairly persistant, which caused a bit of fatigue. Maybe we were just being a bit wussy, but I certainly think a lightweight full suss is the best way forward for Dalby. A bit of rear forgiveness will certainly help you pedal through the bumps. Aside from that we witnessed a guy called Sven crash and burn quite badly causing a nasty gash to his head. So hope you are ok Sven and didn't need too many stitches. Our group was crash free but I witnessed another guy stack it big time as he flew off a jump sideways in his lycra attire after accidentally letting go of the handlebars. I helped him gather his various broken items that were scattered around the crash scene before he steadily rolled away. No doubt he'll be feeling very sore tonight.
My next trip will definately be on something a little more squishy in the rear. So in preparation I'm logging off now to convince t'other half that a third bike is not a luxury but essential for me to lead a happy and complete life.

What the hell are they thinking?!
By simon on 04 Jun 2007

The idiots have struck again! This time the victim was Simon C at the end of a ride one Monday afternoon. In case you haven't heard about this before, let me give you a brief overview... One evening in May the Tuesday night biking group had a blast down a trail in Guisborough Woods which is well known for having logs laid across which have been placed there by someone or even a number of people (we don't know). The log layers seem to have given up on the log technique and have started something more sinister (see pictures above). This particular Tuesday, two bikers had their tyres punctured by one of these purpose built traps and they weren't too impressed as you can imagine.
I had taken a walk up the trail since the first incident and couldn't find any more traps laid out. But at some point between my walk and Monday 28th May the traps had been relayed. Anyway, as you can, Simon C became a victim of this idiotic trap layer and another innertube bit the dust along with a scratch to his brand news forks.
What really annoys me about this is the serious danger to children, wildlife and pets. The culprit needs to be stopped and made an example of. Have you got a view on this? If so, please discuss in the forum.
An evening in Bluebell Wood
By simon on 21 May 2007

Me taking my camera out is a regular occurrence these days, and on Monday 14th I thought it was a waste of time as the deep, dark and stormy looking clouds began to fill the skies. However, we got lucky as we hit the top of Little Roseberry and the sun started to drop below the blanket of grey cloud and shone across the valley and directly into Bluebell Wood where we were heading.
We had a fast run down Little Roseberry and continued around to the front side of Roseberry Topping where I positioned myself for some pictures of Kev, John and Rich as they descended the steps. Conditions were perfect with a bright and warm sunlight against a stormy backdrop. The result was a couple of really nice action shots. It's just a shame that the camera wasn't in someone else's hands as I washed out on the grass near the entrance to Bluebell, what a numbty I looked. I was a little rushed in Bluebell Woods, afterall it's a bike ride not a photography trip, but a couple of nice pictures were captured of what will probably be our first and last trip through there while the Bluebells paint the floor. Take a look at the photo gallery
Gone but not forgotten
By simon on 21 Apr 2007

We all appreciate why riders build there own little trails and jumps in the woods, but we also understand why the Forestry Commission destroy such unauthorised trails. Personally, I love it when I find sweet new tracks with a freeride element as its something else for me to play on and photograph. It's always a bitter disappointment when trails such as the one pictured above are demolished, but we accept it, move on and take comfort in the fact that we enjoyed it while it lasted. I just really hope that it isn't walkers ripping the jumps apart and laying logs across the previously non existant trail, as that would be a kick in the teeth. Anyway, we have some photos to cherish, so not all is lost.
One last thing though, [rant] why the hell do the people that ride/build/hang around these naughty trails feel the need to dump shite everywhere? Bottles, crisp packets and sweet wrappers scatter the trail and not only make the place look like a disrespected dump, but also gives mountain bikers a VERY bad name. It baffles me as to why people do this. So if you are a culprit, do yourself and everyone else a favour and stop the littering!! [/rant] Right, back to the photos ![]()
ActionCameras sponsors Trail Blasters
By simon on 30 Mar 2007

We're very pleased to announce new sponsorship from ActionCameras.co.uk. ActionCameras sent us their flagship helmet cam last month, which we found to be a great piece of kit and gave us some excellent footage from a day's skidooing in Canada. We now have 2 of their 580 HQ helmet cams with new Sony camcorders, Li-Ion batteries and LANC remotes, so we're looking forward to a great year of mountain biking videos. Having 2 full kits is going to help us capture footage from a variety of angles and increase our chances of getting all the action on tape (crashes) ;-)
The 'making a video' page will be updated soon with new pictures and content. All we need now is some good weather, good riding and lots of time to put a video together. I can't wait ![]()
