Distance: approx 10 miles Time: 90 - 120 minutes Difficulty: Intermediate Start Elevation:325ft Max Elevation: 1058ft Map 3 Notes: 1. You can park at the visitors centre in Pinchinthorpe. Start by following the main track into the woods. The route will follow fireroads all the way to point 2. The last stretch to point 2 from the crossroads is rocky road know as the Unsuitable which leads you to the moors. 2. When you reach the top of the rocky road you will see a gate leading to the moor. Stay on this side of the gate and turn right. Follow the trail between the fence and the trees and you will come to a gate on the left which leads out and up onto the moor. From this point it is easy to get to Captain Cooks monument. When you reach the monument turn right and a little back on yourself. The trail will go through a pair on concrete pillars. 3. Near point 3 on the map you will see a sharp left turn. At this point the trail appears to split into 2 where the brick wall ends. The is actually a third line running parallel to the wall. Ride down beside the small and then over the fallen stones at the bottom. Bear left and follow the trail which will now be obvious. This is the beginning of Great Ayton Downhill. From this point you can ride the whole course but the map directs you to the right in the third part of the course. The trail will lead to an open area looking down to an old quarry where you will find Red Run. 4. There are a few things here to play on such as the 'Slap Drop', 'Red Run' and a few jumps here and there. The route continues by going over the field at the top end of the quarry. Simple follow the direction on the map through a couple of gates, down a very rooty trail and to the tarmac crossroads. From this point you are heading back towards Roseberry Topping via Aireyholme Farm. 5. Once you get back into the woods there is a path off to the left. This is a footpath so do not ride it. Just after the footpath is another trail on the left which is part of 'The Maze'. Head down there and it will lead you back to the fireroad where you can turn left and head home or turn right and do it all again. The end of the route, hope you enjoyed it :O) www.trailblasters.co.uk Copyright (c) 2005 Simon Baxter
